Magic Story
Hi I’m Stefan Biggelaar, director of Nailed It Contractors Ltd. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and how I came to build beautiful homes throughout Auckland.
I grew up on the Hibiscus Coast, living out on the water and close to the beach all the time. From an early age I loved being outside, doing anything I could with my hands.
My father was a builder for many years then transitioned into running a successful furniture company. This is where my passion began with working with timber and creating exceptional hardwood furniture that would last.
From an Early Age
I would work in the factory learning all the different types of machinery, working in all the different stations, and processes right to the end creation ( tables, chairs, dressers, etc )
Through the years of working with my father, we decided to take up a new challenge and we brought some plans for a boat.
We spent one summer right from start to finish building this boat and gaining so much experience in the different ways you can use timber to bring something from paper to reality.
We had this boat for 10 years before it was sold and upgraded.
Spring forward about 4 years at the age of 18, I finished school and was making a decision on where I want to take my life. For me it was an easy decision I started a building apprentice ship January after the summer and didn’t look back.
OFF SHore experience
At the end of my apprenticeship I decided to move to Melbourne in Australia and take on a new challenge and try something different.
At the time building work was a bit difficult to come by so I spend up my eye to different trades, which led me to landscaping. We work on this incredible house building solid stone walls from stones we would hand pick from the suppliers. Chiseling each stone to create a smooth face.
This was a whole different style of work for me, I learnt so much in the way of taking care and doing whatever needed to be done for a high end finish on this incredible $2 Mill home.
I then decided to travel and experience the world, I spent the next 6 months travelling around the world gaining experience in all the different places and people I have met.
Nearing the end of my travels I received an email from the company I have been working with in Auckland before I moved to Australia, asking if I would like a job when I get back.
I was home within the month and worked as a site foreman for the next few years on some amazing projects ranging from reclads, renovations, new builds, light commercial projects.
Along this journey I met my now wife Charlotte, I fell in love almost instantly and became a father to her 2 amazing boys, Lachlan now 10 and Noah now 8. We have added another boy to our family Arie who is 1. I couldn’t ask for a better family as have taken everyone on to be my own children.
